`
`ELECTRONIC CONTROL CENTER SCREEN
`The Electronic Control Center will make the operation of your
`1988 Riviera’s many systems easier and more efficient through
`computerized control.
`
`From one location, you have the ease of fingertip control to display
`and/or operate the radio, climate control, gages, trip monitor,
`diagnostic messages, and clock/calendar.
`
`ELECTRONIC CONTROL CENTER
`
`INTRODUCTION
`
`The Electronic Control Center is an integrated information system
`which provides drivers with fingertip’ control of more information
`than ever before available. This feature - unique to the 1988
`Riviera - allows you to adjust climate control, tune and adjust the
`radio, display engine information, access and update trip
`computer data, scan the operational status of all car diagnostic
`systems, and view and update the reminder calendar. Optional
`telephone and compass functions are also accessed through the
`Electronic Control Center.
`
`
`
`CAUTION: For safety reasons, do this with the car parked
`and key “ON” (motor does not have to be running). We
`recommend that you become thoroughly familiar with
`
`the Electronic Control Center before entering traffic.
`
`
`
`
`
`
`
`RETAINED ACCESSORY POWER FEATURE
`This feature lets you use several electrical systems after the
`ignition is turned off, before a door is opened. if the radio is left
`on when you switch off the ignition, the system automatically
`shows the RADIO page. Then, in thirty (30) seconds the screen
`goes blank but the radio continues to work. Other systems which
`can be operated are:

`enter
`the car
`through the
`driver's door and close the
`door. After
`the ignition is
`turned to the ”Run" position,
`the Logo page will fade and be
`replaced by the SUMMARY
`page. See the SUMMARY
`section
`for
`further
`information.
`
`SYSTEM SWITCHING
`
`Keys may be referred to asswitches or pads in some publications.
`The system switches are called either Hard Keys or Soft Keys.
`When you touch a hard key, a small light on the black border will
`come on and stay on as long as you are displaying that hard key's
`information.
`
`Hard keys are any of six keys on theblack border - CLIMATE,
`SUMMARY, RADIO, GAGES, OPTIONS, and STATUS. When hard
`keys are touched, you will hear a double beep, unless the system
`tone has been turned off.
`
`Soft keys are on the screen.
`See examples on Figure l-2.
`The number of soft keys will
`vary with the page. When you
`touch a soft key, you may hear
`either a double or single beep
`(unless the system tone has
`been turned off) and the page
`or a setting may change.

`AUTO - The system chooses the fan speed.
`
`HIGH — The fan runs at constant high speed.
`
`Under certain conditions, the fan operation may be delayed.

`temperature appears to the left of the COOL soft key (See Figure
`C-1).
`
`When the COOL orWARM soft key is touched, the arrow inside the
`soft key darkens, the surrounding area lightens, and the following
`happens:
`
`COOL-The temperature lowers one degree Fahrenheit or one
`half degree Celsius each time you touch this key. if held, it
`lowers by two degrees Fahrenheit or one degree Celsius per
`second.
`
`HEATER-The air coming into the passenger's compartment is
`directed to the floor. All incoming air is heated, and the in-car
`temperature increases to the setting you choose, unless what
`you choose is below the outside temperature. The fan speed
`adjusts itself unless you press the LOW or HlGH soft key.
`
`ECON - The fan speed and the air outlet positions adjust
`themselves. The LOW or HIGH soft keys override automatic
`fan. The compressor does not run in this mode. The system
`warms the airto the temperature you choose but does not cool
`the air colder than the outside temperature.
`
`AUTO - The system cools or warms the air to the temperature
`selected. The system will continue to regulate itself to the
`selected temperature using different fan speeds and air inlet
`and air outlet positions. To override the fan speed, touch either
`the HIGH or LOW soft key.
`
`Bl-LEVEL - Air enters the passenger compartment through the
`heater and air conditioner outlets. This setting cools or warms
`the air to the temperature selected. To override fan speed,
`touch the HIGH or LOW soft key.
`
`DEF- Most ofthe air is directed to the windshield. The fan turns
