`
`Abstract: (ENG) Method and system for diagnosing whether vehicular components are operating abnormally
`based on data obtained from sensors arranged on a vehicle. In a training stage, output from the sensors
`during normal operation of the components is obtained, each component is adjusted to induce abnormal
`operation thereof and output from the sensors is obtained during the induced abnormal operation. A
`determination is made as to which sensors provide data about abnormal operation of each component
`based on analysis of the output from the sensors during normal operation and during induced abnormal
`operation of the components. During operation of the vehicle, the output from the sensors is obtained
`and analyzed, e.g., by inputting it into a pattern recognition algorithm or neural network generated
`during the training stage, in order to output an indication of abnormal operation of any components
`being diagnosed.

`
`Abstract: (ENG) Method and apparatus for adjusting one or more pedals in a vehicle including a motor for
`moving the pedal(s). The motor is controlled either manually or automatically based on one or more
`measured morphological characteristics of the driver and/or the determined location of the driver.
`Another apparatus and method include a measuring arrangement for measuring the height of the driver
`from the driver seat in the vehicle, a motor coupled to the pedal(s), and a processor or control circuit
`coupled to the measuring arrangement for receiving the measured height of the driver, determining a
`suitable position of the pedal(s) based on the measured height of the driver, which is likely satisfactory
`for the particular driver, and controlling the motor to move the pedal(s) to the determined position
`thereof. The processor may include an algorithm including a table representing measured heights and a
`position of the pedal(s) corresponding to each measured height.

`
`Abstract: (ENG) Method and arrangement for obtaining and conveying information about occupancy of a
`passenger compartment of a vehicle including at least one sensor for obtaining data from the passenger
`compartment. Information about the occupancy is generated based on the data and transmitted, e.g.,
`through a cellular phone system, to emergency response personnel to enable them to respond
`accordingly. The information about the occupancy may be generated by a processor applying pattern
`recognition techniques so that any occupants of the seat may be classified and such classification
`transmitted to the emergency response personnel. The data may also be used to determine the number of
`occupants in the vehicle and/or whether the occupants are moving after a crash. The sensors may be a
`variety of sensors such as an ultrasonic sensor, an electromagnetic wave sensor, an electric field sensor,
`a chemical sensor, a weight sensor, a motion sensor, a microphone, a heartbeat sensor, a vibration
`sensor, an acceleration sensor and a capacitance sensor.

`Abstract: (ENG) System and method for moving a headrest against which an occupant can rest his or her head in
`which an anticipatory crash sensor detects an impending crash based on data obtained prior to the crash
`and a movement mechanism moves the headrest upon detection of an impending crash by the crash
`sensor. The crash sensor may produce an output signal when an object external from the vehicle is
`approaching the vehicle at a velocity above a design threshold velocity. The crash sensor may be any
`type of sensor designed to provide an assessment or determination of an impending impact prior to the
`impact, i.e., from data obtained prior to the impact Thus, the crash sensor can be an ultrasonic sensor,
`an electromagnetic wave sensor, a radar sensor, a noise radar sensor and a camera, a scanning laser
`radar and a passive infrared sensor.

`Abstract: (ENG) Method and system for controlling deployment of an airbag in which the position of an occupant
`to be protected by deployment of the airbag is determined, the probability that a crash requiring
`deployment of the airbag is occurring is assessed and deployment of the airbag enabled in consideration

`Deployment of the airbag may be enabled by analyzing the assessed probability relative to a

`Abstract: (ENG) Method for controlling an occupant protection device in a vehicle in which data is acquired from
`at least one sensor relating to an occupant in a seat to be protected by the occupant protection device,
`the type of occupant is classified based on the acquired data and when the occupant is classified as an
`empty seat or a rear-facing child seat, deployment of the occupant protection device is disabled or
`adjusted. Otherwise, the size of the occupant is classified based on the acquired data, the position of the
`occupant is determined by one of a plurality of algorithms selected based on the classified size of the
`occupant using the acquired data, each algorithm being applicable for a specific size of occupant.
`Deployment of the occupant protection device is disabled or adjusted when the determined position of
`the occupant is more likely to result in injury to the occupant if the occupant protection device were to
`deploy. The algorithms may be pattern recognition algorithms such as neural networks.

`Abstract: (ENG) A vehicle crush detecting device consists of an electrically conducting tube with an electrically
`conducting rod concentrically positioned within the tube along with insulating means positioned at at
`least two points between the rod and the tube to insulate the rod from the tube. The electrically
`conducting tube is deformed during a vehicle crash by a force greater than a predetermined magnitude
`which causes the tube to contact the rod in response to the crush of a vehicle of a predetermined
`amount. The crush sensor is mounted in the crush zone of the vehicle and is used in conjunction with
`automobile passive restraint systems such as airbags.

`
`Abstract: (ENG) A vehicle crash detecting sensor having a pivoted sensing mass which rotates, in response to
`vehicle deceleration occurring in a crash of a vehicle, from an at-rest position through a second position
`of rotation at which time airbag deployment is enabled and then the mass is intentionally rotated
`through to a third (long dwell) position at a rotational angle much larger in magnitude and in the same
`direction as that of the second position. The sensing mass is spring biased to always bias the mass
`during rotation to the at-rest
