`
`Staatsbibliothek

`
`DECLARATION
`
`1. Barbara Schneider-Kempf, am employed as a director general at the Berlin State Library
`(in German: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin Preuflischer Kulturbesitz) Potsdamer Strafie 33. 10785
`Berlin, Germany (“Staatsbibliothek”).
`
`I have firsthand knowledge of
`I have been employed at the Staatsbibliothek since april 2002 .
`the policies and procedures for receiving and indexing (aka cataloging) periodicals (including
`scientific journals), manuscripts, theses, dissertations, and books (each, an “item”) and
`processing such items for placement in the publicly accessible collections of the
`Staatsbibliothek. Indexing involves creating catalog entries, such as author, title, and subject
`matter. about a given item.
`
`The time between receipt of a special item (such as a thesis or dissertation, in book form) and
`the special items being fully cataloged and available in the publicly accessible area of the
`Staatsbibliothek is typically no more than four (4) months. The time between receipt of a
`serial item (such as a journal article) and the item’s being fully cataloged and available in the
`publicly accessible area of the Staatsbibliothek is typically no more than thirty (30) days.
`"Fully cataloged” means indexed in an “index record” that is available to the public for
`searching (based on at least title and author of an item) and an indexed item is available
`inspection in the Staatsbibliothek. Some index records include subjects and keywords
`relevant to a given item.
`
`I have inserted below the month and year that each item listed below would have been fully
`cataloged and available in the Staatsbibliothek; each item listed below has been so cataloged
`and available for public access since at least the recited month and year (other than during
`rare operational events, such as rebinding, relocation, etc.). For items 3-8 below, the actual
`dates of cataloging and public availability would have been years earlier than the recited
`month and year.

`69 pp. (Editions Desoer, Liege, 1951). Fully cataloged by January 1958.
