`You have referred a matter to the National Library of France (BnF) on behalf of one of your clients, a
`
`request for eight documents stored in the Library for which you want to know the date of listing in
`
`BnF’s catalog, as well as the date when it was made publicly available by the Library.
`
`Those papers were published in the 1950's and 1960's. However, computerization of documents was
`
`implemented by BnF much later (those references were incorporated into a computerized catalog in
`
`the late 1990's from paper registration forms). That is why it is hard to give a precise and definite
`
`answer for each book, covering the entire period.
`
`As of today, I cannot give you all the information requested, but I can already give you, below, data
`
`relating to two monographs:
`

`registration form was inserted in the "Authors" index during the same period.

`In the "Topics" index it was filed under the following entries Astaxanthin. - Astacin. — Carotenoid.

`Astacin—astaxanthin. A comparative study.
`
`Observation: The thesis corresponding to this book was also received at the National Library, and
`
`announced in Attachment D ofthe Bibliography of France in 1952, as well as in the Catalog of theses
`
`and academic writings, Volume 67, Chapter XIV. As a result, its integration into the "authors" index
`
`probably dates back to 1952.
`

`This book was announced in the Bibliography of France on April 28, 1961. The corresponding
`
`registration form would have been inserted in the "Authors" index shortly after. Two copies can be
`
`found in the collections ofthe Library. In the "Topics" index, it was reported under the following
`
`entries: Astaxanthin — Vitamin A. Deficiency. Astaxanthin. — Astaxanthin.. Avitaminosis A. Vitamin A.
`Astaxanthin.
`
`Observation: the typed thesis corresponding to that book was also received at the National Library,
`
`and announced in Attachment D of the Bibliography of France on December 4, 1959.
`
`The other 6 documents included in your request are articles published in periodicals.
`
`However, it is the title of the periodical which is indexed, and not the title or the authors of the
`
`articles. Consequently, we cannot find each title corresponding to the article by just typing words or
`
`names ofauthors in the catalog.
`
`The relevant department of the BNF continues its investigations for those documents.
`
`A response will be given to you by Friday, July 5 at the latest.
`
`I can however inform you that those periodicals are indeed included in BNF collections and can be
`made available to the Public.

`All of these documents are made available to the Public, a maximum of one month after the

`announcement of incorporation in the Bibliography of France.
