`
`Petition for Inter Partes Review
`of U.S. Pat. No. 7,477,284
`IPR2013‐00219
`EXHIBIT
`Sony‐
`
`
`
`I, Kenichi Okada, do hereby make the following declaration:
`
`1. The statements contained in this declaration are based on my personal
`
`knowledge.
`
`2.
`
`I received my BS, MS. and PhD. degrees in instrumentation engineering
`
`from Keio University, in 1973, 1975, and 1982, respectively.
`
`3.
`
`I have been a professor at Keio University since April 1994. From April 1994
`
`to March 1996, I was an Associate Professor in the Department of Instrumentation
`
`Engineering. From April 1996 to March 2002, I was an Associate Professor in the
`
`Department of Information and Computer Science. Finally, since April 2002, I
`
`have been a Professor in the Department of Information and Computer Science.
`
`4.
`
`I have authored or co—authored over 150 publications, including books and
`
`papers, such as “Collaboration and Communication Support System” (108 Press,
`
`May 2009) and “Designing Communication and Collaboration Support Systems”
`
`(Gordon and Breach Science Publishers, Nov. 1999). My research interests
`
`include computer supported cooperative work, groupware, human computer
`
`interaction, and ubiquitous computing.
`
`5.
`
`I am a Fellow of the Information Processing Society of Japan (“IPSJ”) and the
`
`Virtual Reality Society of Japan (“VRS”).
`
`I am also a member of the Institute of
`
`Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (“IEICE”), the
`
`Association for Computing Machinery (“ACM”), and the Institute of Electrical and
`
`2
`
`
`
`Electronics Engineers (“IEEE”).
`
`I have received several honors, including the
`
`IPSJ Best Paper Awards of 1995, 2000, and 2007, the IPSJ 40th Anniversary Paper
`
`Award in 2000, the 2002 IPSJ Fellow, the IEEE SAINT Best Paper Award in 2004,
`
`and the 2010 VRS Fellow Award.
`
`6.
`
`I have been a member of VRS, an academic society, since April 1997. In
`
`March 1997, we launched SIG-CyberSpace (“SIG-CS”) as a special interest group
`
`of VRS.
`
`I was Secretary of SIG-CS from April 1997 to March 2000, Vice
`
`Chairman from April 2000 to March 2006, and Chairman from April 2006 to
`
`March 2009.
`
`I was also an Executive Board Member of VRS from April 2006 to
`
`March 2010. As Secretary, I managed the operations of SIG—CS. For example, I
`
`submitted the financial statements of SIG-CS to VRS.
`
`7.
`
`SIG—CS organized symposiums and SIG meetings with the objective of
`
`offering a forum for discussing academic research regarding virtual reality
`
`applications such as networked communities. These symposiums and SIG
`
`meetings were open to members, students, and the general public. Information and
`
`materials distributed at such symposiums and SIG meetings were publicly
`
`available and not subject to any confidentiality restrictions. The number of
`
`participants at these symposiums and SIG meetings ranged between 15 to 30
`
`people interested in the subject matter being discussed.
`
`3
`
`
`
`8. As Secretary of SIG—CS, l organized, managed and attended a SIG meeting
`
`held on November 27, 1997 at the Landmark Tower in Yokohama City.
`
`9. Attached as Exhibits 10 and 20 are copies of announcements that were posted
`
`online about the November 27, I997 SIG meeting prior to the SIG meeting. The
`
`URL for the SIG—CS homepage listed on Exhibits 10 and 20 belonged to my
`
`laboratory at Keio University and was publicly accessible. As indicated on the
`
`Call for Participants (Exhibit 20), applications for participation were accepted at
`
`the venue on the day of the event. The participant fees were 2,000 yen for the
`
`general public and 1,000 yen for students. SIG-CS members were admitted free of
`
`charge.
`
`10. During the SIG meeting, copies of a booklet of the five papers presented were
`
`made available to participants. The booklet was not marked or treated as
`
`confidential. To enable non-Japanese speaking members of the public to
`
`understand the contents of these five papers, and to facilitate searches by non-
`
`Japanese speakers for the papers, SIG-CS requested that the authors of each of the
`
`five papers provide English titles and abstracts for their papers, and those English
`
`titles and abstracts were included in the booklet. Attached is a copy of the booklet
`
`(Exhibit 30).
`
`l 1. Prior to the SIG meeting on November 27, 1997, copies of the booklet were
`
`ordered for distribution. These booklets, as noted above, were made available to
`
`4
`
`
`
`participants at the SIG meeting. The remaining copies were given to me for further
`
`distribution after the SIG meeting.
`
`12.
`
`Printed materials related to SIG-CS symposiums and SIG meetings, such as
`
`the booklet for the November 27, 1997 SIG meeting, were available for anyone to
`
`order. As a part of my responsibility as Secretary, which included accounting,
`
`requests and orders after the symposiums and SIG meetings were directed to me,
`
`and I handled the payments and deliveries.
`
`I recall receiving at least one request
`
`for a booklet shortly after the November 27, 1997 meeting, and followed up on that
`
`request.
`
`I declare under penalties of perjury set out in 18 U.S.C. § 1001 that the foregoing
`
`statements are true and correct to the best of my knowledge.
`
`
`
`Executed on March 2 c4 , 2013.
