`HEADLINE: QUALCOMM's MSM6500 Multimedia Single-Chip Solution Enables High-Performance Multimode
`Handsets Supporting CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO and GSM/GPRS
`
`BODY:
`
`- Highly Integrated Chipset Enables Cost-Effective High-Speed Wireless
`
`Data Terminals, Receive Diversity on CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO Systems,
`Roaming on GSM/GPRS Systems and Connectivity to USB Devices Through
`USB Host Functionality -
`
`SAN DIEGO, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and
`world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced details regarding
`the MSM6500(TM) Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) chipset and system software, a high-capacity, high-speed
`wireless data solution that supports the industry-wide CDMA2000 1X and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO standards, as well as
`roaming on GSM/GPRS systems. Samples of the MSM6500 chipset are expected to ship in the second quarter of
`calendar 2003.
`
`Capable of peak wireless data rates of 2.4 Mbps on the forward link, the MSM6500 solution integrates USB
`On-The-Go (OTG) host controller functionality that will enable wireless handsets to communicate directly with
`accessories such as printers, digital cameras, keyboards, and CD-ROMs. With receive diversity support on CDMA2000
`1X and 1xEV-DO, the MSM6500 solution can double voice capacity for CDMA2000 1X voice systems and improve
`data throughputs for CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO systems.
`
`"The MSM6500 chipset and system software will allow device manufacturers to develop highly integrated,
`feature-rich terminals without requiring a companion processor for advanced multimedia applications," said Don
`Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "With receive diversity supported on both CDMA2000 1X
`and 1xEV-DO, this solution provides attractive voice-capacity and data-performance improvements to all CDMA
`operators, and will enrich the overall end-user experience."

`QUALCOMM's MSM6500 Multimedia Single-Chip Solution Enables High-Performance Multimode Handsets
`Supporting CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO and GSM/GPRS PR Newswire November 12, 2002 Tuesday
`
`Building on QUALCOMM's industry-leading MSM6100(TM) architecture, the MSM6500 chipset integrates the
`ARM926EJ-S(TM) processor with the ARM(R) Jazelle(TM) Java(TM) accelerator, two low-power, high-performance
`QDSP4000(TM) Digital Signal Processor (DSP) cores and a wideband stereo codec for enhanced digital audio
`applications.
`
`The MSM6500 solution supports the advanced feature set of QUALCOMM's Launchpad(TM) suite of
`technologies, including MPEG-4 encoding and decoding, MP3 audio decoding, 2D/3D graphics acceleration for
`gaming, Compact Media Extension (CMX(TM)) MIDI synthesizer, QUALCOMM's Qcamera(TM) digital interface,
`fast JPEG encoding/decoding, Bluetooth(TM) technology for wireless connectivity and USB OTG.
`
`To enable location-based services and applications, the MSM6500 chipset and system software integrate
`QUALCOMM's gpsOne(TM) solution, which is also capable of operating in a standalone mode, in which the handset
`acts as a GPS receiver. The gpsOne solution, which also includes the VectorOne(TM) compass interface, features
`SnapTrack(R) technology and offers robust position availability under the most challenging conditions, whether in
`concrete-and-steel high-rises, convention centers, shopping malls or urban canyons.
`
`Compliant with Interim Standard 856 (IS-856) and IS-2000 Release A, and backward compatible with IS-95A/B
`and IS-2000 Release 0, the MSM6500 chipset also supports GSM and GPRS functionality, enabling the chipset to
`support all major telecom standards worldwide. The GSM/GPRS modem is based on Release 99 of the GSM and GPRS
`standard, and supports class B, multislot class 8 operation, as well as EFR, FR, HR and AMR vocoders.
`
`The MSM6500 chipset solution also features QUALCOMM's radioOne(TM) direct RF-to-baseband conversion
`technology, resulting in cost-effective multiband and multimode terminals that can be produced in smaller form factors.
