R/3 Documentation
`
`Welcome to the R/3 Documentation CD!
`
`This CD contains documentation in Microsoft WindowsTM Help for R/3 Release 2.2.
`It contains the following directories:
`\SAPR3E - contains the English Help files
`\SAPR3D - contains the German Help files
`
`Installation Notes
`
`You can install the R/3 documentation on an R/3 client or on a standalone PC.
`An R/3 client has access to the R/3 system; whereas the standalone PC does not.
`
`Server Installation
`
`You create a documentation server to provide access from R/3 clients to the R/3 documentation.
`The documentation server is simply a directory containing the Help files that is connected to the
`client machine.
`We suggest installing the documentation server on a networked disk drive for optimum
`performance. You will require approximately 40 MB per language.
`To install the server, copy the *.HLP files from the desired language directory to the desired disk
`drive. Use the same directory name as those on the documentation CD. For example, the
`following DOS command copies the English *.HLP files to the network drive R:
`> xcopy \SAPR3E\*.HLP R:\SAPR3E\*.*/v
`R/3 Client Installation
`Each R/3 Client using Windows can access the documentation server directly from R/3. The
`documentation server must be connected to the client before R/3 is started, however.
`You must enter the path of the drive containing the documentation server in the SAPINST.INI file in
`the SAPGUI directory of the client. You enter the path in the "docucd" parameter for each system
`the user can access. For example, the following options in the SAPINST.INI file access the R: drive
`from the X22 system:
`[X22]
`docucde=R:\ <-- English Help files
`docucdd=R:\ <-- German Help files
`The name of the subdirectory containing the help files (for example, SAPR3E) is not required.
`To test the installation, select Help -> R/3 Library from any R/3 application. The "R/3 Online
`Reference" file should display.
`
`Viewing Files without a Connection to the R/3 System
`
`With the standalone installation, you can select and view the Windows Help files for the R/3
`applications. You do not require connection to the R/3 System.
`The installation installs the R/3 Library Manager, which lets you choose the documentation for a
`particular application.

`

`
`You will need the following for the standalone installation:
`- A personal computer with a 386SX or higher processor
`- Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or later
`- 4 MB of RAM (6 MB recommended)
`- A CD-ROM drive
`- 1 MB of free disk space
`To install the R/3 System Documentation software:
`Insert the R/3 System Documentation CD in the CD-ROM drive.
`1.
`2.
`For the english installation, display the "\SAPR3E" directory.
`For the german installation, display the "\SAPR3D" directory.
`3. Double-click on the file "SETUP.EXE" to start the installation,
`appear on the screen.
`When the installation is complete, the "R/3 Documentation" application window displays.
`Double-click on the icon to display the R/3 Library Manager.
`4. Select the icon for an application ("Materials Management", for example).
`5. Select the appropriate topic ("Purchasing", for example).
`The Windows Help file you selected displays.
`To close the Window when you are done viewing the file, select "Close".
`
`and follow the instructions that
`
`If you do not have enough memory...
`
`If you do not have enough RAM or disk space, you can install the R/3 Library Manager as a
`Windows Help file. The disadvantage to this approach is that the graphics display has a far lower
`resolution.
`1. Select the application window from which you want to access the R/3 documentation.
`2. Select File -> New
`- Enter "R/3 Documentation" in the description field
`- Enter the path of the help files and "booklist.hlp" in the command line
`- Select "Change icon" to set the windows Help icon
`- Select "OK"
`3. Double-click on the Help icon to display the "R/3 Online Reference" screen.
